Window cleaning should be performed from ground level whenever possible. Use of waterfed poles eliminates the need to work at height and allows for the cleaning of the window. This information sheet discusses practical precautions window cleaners can take to keep risks to a minimum. It was compiled in collaboration with the Federation of Window Cleaners and manufacturers of Waterfed Poles. Less obvious dangers include the consequences of transporting large tank systems and equipment in a vehicle.

Slippery surfaces and high-visibility clothing should be worn by operators, even more so when operating in close proximity to pedestrian and vehicular traffic. Considerations should be given to inclement weather. Risks associated with transporting overloaded, unstable, or unsecured tanks, systems, and equipment. Owners of businesses are responsible for providing appropriate vehicles, equipment, and means of securing the load. Consider the possibility of overloading vehicles equipped with water tanks when a tank is full.
